I was thinking about this the other day, and I was mainly thinking about good potential love interests for Ted. Here are a few that I came up with. But if you have ideas for other characters (a love interest for Robin, a wingman for Barney, etc), go ahead and add those too.

The first one to pop into my head was Rachel McAdams. There's just something about her personality that seems like she would fit in very well with the rest of the cast. I'm not sure if it's seen as a step down to go from movies to TV, but I think it would be nice to see her in a few episodes.

Then I was watching CSI the other day, and it looks like Jorja Fox (Sarah Sidle) is on her way out. If she's looking for an acting job, why not have her meet Ted?

The next one is Amber Tamblyn. I know what you're thinking -- she's too young for Ted, but that's not the case. She will turn 25 this spring, and it seems that she's been typecast into playing high school-aged characters. An appearance on HIMYM will give her a chance to get away from the teen dramas and horror movies that she's been doing and branch out a bit.

Now going from someone who's potentially too young for Ted to someone who's potentially too old. Rachael Harris would be a hillarious addition to the show. In Notes from the Underbelly she basically plays a female version of Barney (check it out -- it's surprisingly funny). This one is probably unlikely since they've already done an episode where a cast member has tried to tame a cougar.

Let's hear your thoughts on these and any other potential guest stars!

One actress I would dearly love to see on this show is Emma Caulfield, aka Anya from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Perhaps as a love interest for Ted, that would work, but I'd love to see her appear in any capacity whatsoever. She can be so funny, she'd be perfect!

She's also good friends with Alyson Hannigan.

Edit: Adding her picture:

A few of my thoughts:

FEMALES:

Shannen Doherty:
One of the original Charmed Ones. I know she's, compared to the other cast-members, a little old, but she's a great actress and a guest-role on HIMYM would do good to her career. Also, it would let today's youth meet her. She's might be a colleague of Lily. 'Cause we haven't seen Lily at work since "Monday Night Football".

Holly Marie Combs:
The second Charmed One. As with Alyssa Milano and Tara Reid (both below), she is around the age of the most cast-members, and will thus blend in perfectly as a guest-star. She could play Robin's older sister maybe? Or... Barney's cousin? Maybe a substitute for Wendy the Waitress? Who knows... C&C, you might also want to consider HMC.

Alyssa Milano:
The Third Charmed One. She too, is around the age of most cast-members and thus will be fitting for a guest-role. She, as the below mentioned Tara Reid might just be a High-school friend... (fill in the blank yourself)

Rose McGowan:
The FOURTH and final Charmed One. As Paige, Rose stole a lot of hearts, especially the ones of guys. She has, with her light skin color, a certain power to paralyze people. This power can be used in HIMYM to seduce Barney. Of course, it would be funt to make her a FEMALE version of Barney.
But then again, imagine her as Lily's sister. Or maybe her cousin? Maybe none of those things, but just someone the gang meets in McLaren's. Anyhow, a perfect guest-star.

Sarah Michelle Gellar:
Sarah Michelle Gellar has, as Buffy, kicked a lot of vampire-LoserFace.
But actually, she's a sweet girl. She can do drama, she can do comedy. And that second one, we need to see. Might be a possible love-interest for Ted. Consider her, C&C!

Tara Reid:
A prey for Barney, maybe? She's around Alyson's age, so she might be able to fit in as a guest-star. She's one fine actress and has done some great comedies. C&C... consider her.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MALES:

Nicholas Brendon:
Alexander "Xander" Harris. That's how many people know him, but actually, he's a lot more. From 1997 through 2003 he has portayed Xander with a lot of fun (his brother has, too. Two times, actually).
As a guest-star, he can bring new male life to the show. Maybe a possible love-interest for Robin? Or someone who wants to steal Lily from Marshall? (He couldn't get Willow, maybe he can have Lily, then? For a little while...) Think it over, C&C.

Bruce Campbell:
Bruce Campbell, aka. Ashley "Ash" J. Williams, is an icon in Hollywood. When he did his first major movie, "The Evil Dead", in 1981, he was almost hailed! And he's funny, too! He might play Ted's wise uncle. Or maybe Barney's real father? Anyhow, he can be a great addition to the show.

Brian Krause:
Has he been forgotten? Brian Krause has, as the whitelighter Leo, guided the above-mentioned Charmed Ones many times. He could be a possible love-interest for Robin. He needs more roles! What better was than to star in HIMYM for at least one episode?!

If I'm not mistaken, Ashley Williams already appeared on the show -- and she looks much better in this picture Wink

I could see somebody being Barney's protégé. I'll have to look into some maybe younger actors for Barney to take under his wing? Haha. Hm, maybe Steve Talley of American Pie (5 and 6, haha) fame? I don't know if he's really all that great of an actor, but I can see him connecting with Barney, hahaha.

With all the hits about Barney having a history with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, I'd kind of like to see her make a cameo on the show.

I bet the writers have considered it.
