You know, as I was watching last nights episode, I started thinking about Josh's acting abilities.

It could be that he really actually does love architecture, and that he is really just a super happy guy... but I think he *may* be the best actor on the show.

Now that's hard to say. None of the actors on the show actually annoy me like other tv shows. None of them strike me as 'bad' actors/tresses....

aw crap.

now that i think about it, NPH has got to be best.

But Josh still gets 2nd place award.

Lol Laughing . I personally think Alyson is the best actress, but I agree with you. Most shows have that one character that you can totally picture another person playing, but I like all the actors is HIMYM, and it's so weird to think about another person playing Marshall or Robin or anyone.

They all have their strengths. Jason is probably the best at impovising. Neil is great at adding his own little gesticulations and whatnot to whatever he's saying. Josh, i'll agree, is probably the most talented 'actor.' And, the girls are just fantastic too.

That's my analysis. Smile

I like Joss Radnor's performance on HIMYM because it's easy to see his Ted character being played very "whiney". But that's not the way he comes across. Yeah, he has his share of hard luck, and he complains often about his situation, but it's never to the point where he gets to be annoying or moping-self-pitying. His character remains intelligent and highly likeable.

I actually think that, so far, this goes to Jason (Marshall). It's just so hard to say so-and-so is better than so-and-so in a show like HIMYM. So to me, I look at each individual characters and look for their "defining moment", at least so far.

Robin's I think was Brunch. Ted's was Drumroll (at least IMO). Lily's was Where were we, Barney was the one with Price is Right. And going through all of those, I think they are not able to match Marshall in Season 1's finale. His scenes with Lily, IMO, brought much character to what other wise had been a weak (er) character among the five starring roles. When I think of HIMYM years from now after it is off the air (hopefully many many many years from now), I can guarantee that several scenes from that episode will forever be imprinted in my mind:

- Pause/Unpause
- Marshall's reaction of "We can't pause this any longer....", "Can you promise me that?"
- Marshall sitting on the footsteps of their apartment to conclude the episode.

I don't think I'd be able to pick a "best" actor on the show. The beauty of HIMYM is that the whole cast works so well together (it reminds me of the cast of Friends and Seinfeld). If any of the main characters were to leave and be replaced, it would change the entire dynamic of the show.

If anybody I could see Robin gone.

I think that's true.

Ted is the character that plays the main part in the show, so he can't leave.
If one were to remove Lily OR Marshall, one would destroy the remaining party.
And Barney is the comedic factor in the show, so it's impossible for him to leave, either.

Robin has grown on me over two and a half seasons. At the beginning I didn't care too much for her, I initially thought she projected an aloof offputting air. But I've definitely warmed up to her over the run of the show.

Still though, she may be the least intertwined with the other characters within the quintet. Especially now that she's broken up with Ted (and probably everyone knew that was in the cards). It's not a given that Robin will be gone but of the five at the present time it seems she could leave most easily.

On the other hand maybe if the show goes on they will be expanding the ensemble. Lots of possibilities for Robin if they go that route.

As for Josh Radnor I can see a good career for him whether HIMYM continues or not. I can easily visualize him becoming the Dustin Hoffman of his generation.

In my opinion, none of the characters can be analyzed or juxtaposed to be seen as "the best actor." Personally, I find Jason to be hilarious how random and funny he can be, so like him the most, but I think Barney is very original, and Lily is very cute, and Teddy is very strong personality-wise. ^ Indeed, we can't question that. Wink

Am I the only one who thinks the characters were more original in Season 1 and less "forced?" By Season 3, I feel that Marshall was a bit out of character and not as natural and Barney wasn't nearly as youthful. And Marshall and Lily's relationship wasn't as cute. It just seemed that they weren't the same characters I fell in love with. Razz

You may have a point there. But Carter and Craig have the entire fifth season to make us fall in love with Lily (and the others) all over again!
